BYD Dolphin: the electric hatchback from China
The Dolphin is BYD's compact electric hatchback from the Ocean series, front-wheel drive with a Blade LFP battery and 410–520 km of CLTC range. Since March 2025 it is sold in China as the Smart Driving edition (智驾版) with God's Eye C driver assistance as standard. THE MODEL
BYD's compact electric hatchback.
The Dolphin went on sale in China in August 2021 as the first car of BYD's Ocean series, built on e-Platform 3.0 with a front motor, front-wheel drive and BYD's Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. It is built in Shenzhen and Changsha. Abroad it keeps the Dolphin name; the smaller Seagull is the car sold as the Dolphin Mini.
The current China car is the facelift launched in March 2025, sold as the Smart Driving edition (智驾版). It is 4,280 mm long, 130 mm longer than before, on a 2,700 mm wheelbase, with God's Eye C (DiPilot 100) driver assistance and highway navigation assist as standard, a 12.8-inch centre screen, an 8.8-inch instrument display and a 50 W wireless phone pad. There are three versions: 70 kW or 130 kW with a 45.1 kWh battery, and 150 kW with a 60.5 kWh battery.

Trim names are translated from Chinese: Freedom is 自由版, Fashion 时尚版 and Knight 骑士版, all in the Smart Driving edition (智驾版). Range is CLTC, which reads higher than WLTP. The export price is quoted per version, volume and destination. See also electric cars from China.

How the China Dolphin differs.
China version, not the global Dolphin
The Dolphin sold in Europe, Australia and Latin America (where it is called the Dolphin Plus) is a separate export version with its own crash structure. The China car is built to Chinese rules, so we state which version you are getting per VIN.
GB/T charging
China-market Dolphins have GB/T charging inlets for AC and DC, not the CCS2 inlet of export Dolphins. In a CCS2 market your buyers need GB/T charging equipment or adapters; confirm what local chargers support before you order.
Pick the motor for the use
The 70 kW Freedom is a city car; the 130 kW Fashion shares its 45.1 kWh battery with more power, and the 150 kW Knight has the larger 60.5 kWh battery and the longest range. All three are front-wheel drive.
China-market software
The centre screen and the God's Eye C driver assistance run BYD's China-market software, with Chinese navigation and connected services. We confirm the menu language and which functions work outside China on the quotation.

Chile
Chile broadly bars used passenger-car imports into the mainland, so for Chilean registration we quote new units; your customs broker confirms how a zero-mileage unit registered in China is treated. Peru
Peru drives on the right, so the left-hand-drive China Dolphin needs no conversion. Used imports are limited by age and emissions, so new and zero-mileage units clear most cleanly. UAE and Saudi Arabia
The China Dolphin is a China-specification car, not Gulf-spec, so check battery cooling and climate equipment per VIN. Saudi Arabia requires conformity certificates through SABER, which must be confirmed for the China version; the UAE free zone also suits re-export. See UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Nigeria
Duties and levies are a large part of landed cost in Nigeria, so we quote CIF Lagos and you work out the duty with your clearing agent first. How much does a BYD Dolphin from China cost?

Is the China Dolphin the same as the Dolphin sold in other markets?
It is the same model but not the same specification. The export Dolphin, called the Dolphin Plus in parts of Latin America, has its own crash structure and CCS2 charging; the China car has GB/T charging and China-market software. Since 2025 the China car is 4,280 mm long and has God's Eye C driver assistance as standard.
Does the China Dolphin use CCS2 or GB/T charging?
GB/T, for both AC and DC charging, like every China-market car. Export Dolphins use CCS2. Check that chargers in your market can serve a GB/T inlet, or plan GB/T wallboxes or adapters; we confirm the inlet type per VIN.
Can I order zero-mileage or used Dolphins?
Yes. Tongda Motors is approved by the Chinese authorities to export used vehicles, and every unit is photographed and inspected against its VIN before you pay, with a battery state-of-health report. Used Dolphins from 2021–2024 have the shorter pre-facelift body, smaller batteries in some versions and no God's Eye C, so we state version, battery and mileage per VIN.
